Do you know what defines a mobile veterinary service?

This article will help you learn more about the topic — and more specifically, about our mobile consultation and specialized surgery service, Coupez!

A specialized mobile veterinary service can cover a range of specialties. Some focus on cardiology, anesthesia, or specialized surgery — like Coupez.

We are the only specialized mobile surgery service based in the Greater Montreal area. Our mission is: by improving access to specialized care, supporting continuing education, and collaborating with veterinarians across Quebec, we help enhance the health and well-being of animals.

We aim to make specialized surgery more accessible for animals in Quebec and surrounding areas.

We perform orthopedic, soft tissue, and neurological surgeries, as outlined [here].

The two main advantages of mobility are:

  1. Proximity: Our specialized team travels to your regular veterinary clinic to operate on your pet. We bring our equipment with us and perform the surgery directly at our partner clinics.

Thanks to Coupez, there's no need to travel to a referral center to meet a specialist — we come to you!

  1. Trust: You and your pet can feel at ease knowing that specialized care is provided in a familiar environment, surrounded by professionals you already know — and who know us too. It’s true teamwork!

What services do we offer?

  • Consultation

  • Radiographic interpretation with treatment plan

  • Surgery

  • Veterinary and technical mentorship

  • And more

Our specialists are happy to meet with you, examine your pet, and discuss their condition in depth during a consultation.

Did you know that Coupez was the first specialized surgery service in Quebec to offer virtual consultations? This service is highly appreciated by our partners and clients. To schedule a consultation, click here.

We also offer an orthopedic radiograph interpretation service, accompanied with a personalized treatment plan outlining the various possible options and their respective prognosis.

And of course, we perform surgery. The three main types of surgeries we provide are orthopedic, soft tissue, and neurological surgeries.

Orthopedic surgeries

Every week, we operate on patients with cranial cruciate ligament ruptures, using the TPLO technique, patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, and various types of fractures.

Soft tissue surgeries

The soft tissue surgeries we perform are diverse (and not limited to this short list): brachycephalic airway syndrome correction, removal of skin or internal masses, total ear canal ablation, cystotomy, preventive gastropexy, exploratory laparotomy for foreign body search, and more.

Neurological surgeries

As for neurological procedures — such as disc herniation decompression or removal of a mass affecting the nervous system — they require advanced imaging like an MRI or CT scan beforehand. This currently limits our involvement in such cases, as we do not have access to this type of specialized medical imaging equipment.

Where do we operate?

Coupez collaborates with a network of nearly 200 veterinary clinics located within a 150 km radius of Montreal.

Becoming partners with Coupez comes with no fees or obligations. However, your team will gain access to a variety of tools and resources — including training, daily support, and mentorship as needed — to ensure smooth collaboration between our teams.

All veterinary clinics in Quebec can become partners with Coupez. Many of our current partners are located in remote areas! Clinics outside our main service area can also refer their patients to be operated on by our specialized team in the Greater Montreal area. We ensure close collaboration and continuity of care with your clinic, even in remote regions.

What is our team structure?

Here’s how we ensure our days run smoothly and efficiently:

The administrative team handles appointment scheduling, client service, partner relations, business development, communications, marketing, and more.

The surgical team is responsible for consultations, anesthetic monitoring, surgeries, and the perioperative care of the patients we operate on.

Clear communication between the administrative and surgical teams allows us to optimize our travel and daily workflow.

What does a typical day look like?

At the start of the day, our team meets at our sterilization facility to check and load the necessary equipment into our vehicles for the scheduled surgeries.

We then travel from one veterinary clinic to another to meet with our partners and operate on our shared patients.

Once the surgeries are complete, we pack up our equipment and head back to our sterilization facility, where our instruments are cleaned, sterilized, and stored until their next use.
